The historic center of Sernancelhe has, this weekend, five stages for different cultural initiatives in a project by the City Council to boost and revitalize the space, the councilor for culture told Lusa today. “This event includes five stages where people can choose a musical style, an artistic performance, a literary moment, because the stages work simultaneously and people go around and choose”, detailed Armando Mateus. The councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Sernancelhe, in the district of Viseu, told the Lusa agency that the “Ser+Cultura” project was born in 2015, because “there was a need to create dynamism” in the historic center of the village.“ Its purpose is to revitalize and dynamize our historic area, which has an immense classified built heritage, with some commerce that was in decline and a reduced population area”, he stressed. After the first edition, “and until now, it is a space that has been almost entirely recovered, both the private and public parts, new commercial spaces have emerged, closely linked to catering, cafeteria and others to tourism”, he underlined. For Armando Mateus, this cultural project “gave strength and ability to the historic area to revitalize itself” and, every year, “even during the pandemic, outdoor exhibitions were held”. In “various artistic spaces”, there will be “music, dance, theater, exhibitions”, namely of sculpture, “literature, sport, gastronomy, a series of cultural moments distributed in different areas and where it is possible to taste some gastronomy”, he enumerated. Without wishing to highlight names of artists, Armando Mateus stressed that “all the participants”, this year, “are residents, coming from or with some kind of connection” to Sernancelhe, because “there are many people with artistic value” in the municipality. The official added that, throughout the weekend, inside the municipal library, the book fair is also taking place and that “other spaces that are usually closed, but which are kindly ceded to the municipality” will be open during this period. As an example, the councilor spoke of “in a private mill that can be visited, as a traditional wine mill”, but where there may also be “an artistic installation” created for this weekend. “There is a whole partnership” and, “the most interesting and rewarding thing is that we have managed over the years to revitalize and dynamize this historic center” of Sernancelhe, stressed the councilor. From the 8th to the 10th of July, the historic center is “prohibited to car circulation, so that people can move freely”, indicated the mayor, suggesting that people leave “the vehicles parked in the village parks and take advantage of the tourist train” to the center.
