Between the University of Abomey-Calavi (Uac) and the Wapco Benin Company, it is now a love story. And for good reason, this Chinese company based in Benin will offer undergraduate and master’s students in several sectors deemed specific, scholarships with enormous advantages for both Benin and the beneficiaries. The partnership agreement that seals this marriage between the two parties was signed this Thursday, June 30, 2022, at the Idriss Debi Itno amphitheater of Uac.
In charge of the construction of the Benin-Niger pipeline, Wapco Benin is more attractive to the Beninese community. Apart from this gigantic oil infrastructure which this Chinese company, a pioneer in the field, is in charge of, its ambitions for a local and quality workforce are growing. This is what should be remembered from his new mission, which thus reflects his personal involvement in the university education of several students. This, through the offer of a myriad of scholarships ”Aurore” in License but also in master for sectors given to the Uac. During the official ceremony of this partnership agreement, Ministers, district authorities, teachers, students, guests and also a strong delegation from this company were present. After his welcome speech, the Vice-Rector in charge of inter-university cooperation, partnerships and professional integration explains that this grant includes registration and training fees plus survivor’s allowances; for the beneficiaries.
Listening to her, the scholarships are intended for students of License 2 admitted to License 3 and Master 1 admitted to Master 2. For her, the sectors identified, by mutual agreement with the partner, are distributed in seven establishments of the Uac including the Master 2 in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, business law, planning, the License 3 in secretarial management… In turn, the General Manager of Wapco Benin, Jin Jinsong hinted that since its creation, the society has always been concerned about the smooth running of education in Benin. Because for him, it is common knowledge that the development of a company and a country depends on its pool of skills. This explains, he says, the presence of Wapco Benin at this ceremony. This initiative reflects, according to him, the will of the company to translate into action, its responsibility and social obligation. “This initiative not only significantly encourages Uac students to focus on their studies but also provides them with solid support to improve their quality and their competitiveness on the job market”, he mentioned while reaffirming that this opportunity will strengthen the local workforce in the implementation of this project. Hoping that the beneficiaries of this scholarship will work after their training in the Wapco Benin company, the Chinese Ambassador to Benin, Jingtao Peng invited the Beninese authorities to open up more promising sectors. The Minister Samou Seïdou Adambi of Water and Mines, in his short speech, thanked the Wapco Benin company for this opportunity offered to Uac students. According to him, in the progress of the pipeline project, several vacancies remained vacant during the recruitment related to the project. From his words, it appears that these positions are rare in Benin. This therefore led to the establishment of this training grant to make available specialists in these sectors.
With regard to the beneficiaries, the ministerial authority reminds that only the best at the end of their training can be taken into account immediately by the company and this, for a faultless professional career. A system which will say Minister Éléonore Yayi of Higher Education and Scientific Research, is in line with Benin’s economic development model. The variety of sectors and especially their alignment with the government’s vision are, for her, to be welcomed. The Uac thus becomes a more than key actor in the marketing of rare talents which the country, according to him, will need for its development.
